STEP 1

Print the pattern

Follow the instructions for your paper size below:

1 - Open the 36” print file

2 - Print; ensure the settings are:

  • Paper size = 36” wide

  • Scale = Actual size (100%)

  • Layout = Portrait

3 - Measure the Thimball square

If incorrect, adjust the print settings until the square measures correct. If you’re having trouble printing accurately, we recommend using Adobe Acrobat Free Download

STEP 2

Round up your tools

  • Sewing machine

  • Iron and ironing board

  • Scissors

  • Tape

  • Pins

  • Fabric pen or chalk

STEP 3

Gather your materials

Cut out the paper pieces for your size

  • See step 3 images for size info.

STEP 5

Cut out the fabric pieces

  • Seam allowance and hem allowance are already included.

STEP 6

Label your fabric pieces

  • For clarity, we made the wrong side of our fabric darker.

  • For a closer look, you can click or double-tap on the images to activate zoom.

STEP 7

Sew the side seams

  • Use 1/2 inch seam allowance

  • We chose a plain seam with a straight stitch and finished it with an overcast stitch

STEP 8

Sew the ruffle panel seams

  • Use 1/2 inch seam allowance

  • We chose a plain seam with a straight stitch and finished it with an overcast stitch

STEP 9

Hem the ruffles

  • There is 1/2 inch hem allowance

  • We chose a double-fold hem and finished it with a straight stitch

STEP 10

Gather the ruffles

  • We chose a basting stitch 1/4 inch from edge

  • Pull the basting stitch to gather the top edges

STEP 11

Attach the ruffles

  • Use 1/2 inch seam allowance

  • We chose a plain seam with a straight stitch and finished it with an overcast stitch

STEP 12

Hem the front panel

  • There is 1/2 inch hem allowance

  • We chose a single-fold hem and finished it with a straight stitch

STEP 13

Sew the waist tie seams

  • Use 1/2 inch seam allowance

  • We chose a plain seam with a straight stitch

STEP 14

Turn the waist ties right side out

STEP 15

Attach the waist ties

  • Use 1/2 inch seam allowance

  • We chose a straight stitch

STEP 16

Sew the waistband piece seams

  • Use 1/2 inch seam allowance

  • We chose a plain seam with a straight stitch

STEP 17

Fold the edge

  • There is 1/2 inch fold allowance

STEP 18

Attach the waistband

  • Use 1/2 inch seam allowance

  • We chose a straight stitch

STEP 19

Fold the waistband

  • Fold from the straight stitch

STEP 20

Fold the waistband edge

  • There is 1/2 inch fold allowance

STEP 21

Fold the waistband in half

STEP 22

Sew the waistband seam

  • We chose a topstitch

STEP 23

Sew the buttonhole

  • We choose to position it 1/4 inch from the side seam

  • This is where the inner waist tie will slip through

  • Be a pro! Trim any excess thread and allowances, then, give it a good iron.
