Quick Tips for Beginners

  1. Measure twice, cut once.

Take care to select the correct size so that your creation fits! You’ll find the size information in step 1 of the guide.

  2. Sometimes, near enough isn’t good enough.

Be precise when cutting out both your paper and fabric pattern pieces so that your creation looks as smart as possible.

  3. Don’t guess. Test!

Our choices may not be the best for your fabric. Before you sew, use your fabric offcuts to test different stitch types and machine settings until you get the look you want.

  4. Ironing isn’t optional.

Sew, iron, sew, iron, sew, iron… your creation will thank you for it!

  5. Back it up!

Backstitch at the start and end of every stitch to stop your creation from unraveling.

  6. Trimmers are winners.

On curves, corners, and folds, you may need to trim the seam allowance to remove bulk.

  7. Notches stop bodges

Notches are used to make sure pieces are aligned correctly prior to sewing, keep an eye out for them.
